Something gets uncovered and Rick tries to dig it out for inspection. They find wood and evidence of a structure. But they tide begins to roll in. He pulls out a piece of wood. It’s been axe cut and it’s old. They will have it carbon dated. Depending on the age of it there could be future full scale excavation. Charles and Rick go to talk to Dan about his experience with Smith’s Cove. Some of the team travel to Wolfville while they wait on the carbon dating results. They meet with descendants of Dunfield. They show Rick something that Dunfield brought home. It’s a piece of wood. They agree to let Rick and Charles take the wood for testing. In the war room, some of the team meets to find out about the test results from the wood from the cove. Marty and Craig join them via video conference with the results. They also have the results from the Dunfield wood. The piece of wood from the cove dates to 1684-1732. The Dunfield wood dates to 1646-1690. These dates are similar to the bones ages. Synopsis: They recap the work being halted due to a blockage. The chisel hammer is used and it gets torn up as well. The team prepares for the day, when Kathleen arrives on the island. She has new information to provide them and she also gets to see the cross they found. She’s very excited. Kathleen explains how they made necklaces of gold disguised as lead in shapes of rhomboids and crosses. They all head back to Smith’s Cove. She’s dying to do some digging. They next day they head back to the Money Pit to try and break through the blockage. They also start draining DMT. Rick, Gary and Marty head to Lot 8 to metal detect. An embossed keyhole is found. Could it fit with the key that Rick was given? This item looks handmade. Back at DMT, they prepare to lower a camera down to figure out what’s blocking the shaft. What they see on the camera doesn’t give them much. There’s just a lot of clay. But water is also starting to seep back in. It floods in in a massive gush. The team tries to puzzle out what’s in the shaft. They drillers feel that it’s a steel plate at 90 feet obstructing the path. Everyone meets in the war room (and digitally) to discuss the situation. Mike Huntley is mentioned. They want to have him dive it to figure out what is blocking the casing.

Synopsis: Gary and Rick are searching Smith’s Cove. They find a very old cross. It then goes over the history of the holy wars and the first crusade. It also covers how the Templars were created. They also worked under the Temple Mount. Excavation went on for ten years and then abruptly stopped. They also created the first banking system. The Templars had loaned a large sum of money to the King of France. The King doesn’t want to pay the loan back and turns on them. He gets the Pope to turn against them. The grandmaster is tortured for years then burned at the stake. He cursed the King of France and the Pope with his last breathes. By the end the remaining Templars were imprisoned in Domme. They carved their beliefs into the walls. There is a carving on the wall at Domme that matches the cross they found at Smith’s Cove. Only 500 Templars were arrested, 3500 still remained free. It’s believed they fled to Scotland, where the Templars already had a stronghold. Historians show that they likely headed west to the North America. Documentation was found to support it. The trajectory would have landed them in Nova Scotia, Latin for New Scotland. This was in 1398. All this research leads them to Zena Halperin. A trip is also recapped to New Ross. It’s possibly an ancient Templar structure. They see a stone that has a Templar cross. Previous excavations on the property showed a stone foundation. It’s thought that the Templars mined gold and silver there on the continent as well. Another researcher shows the brothers a stone in Overton. It has many carvings, including a Templar cross. It suggests a treaty between the native peoples and the Templars. The native flag is looked at. It’s a reversal of the Templar flag. Oak Island is now discussed. The pit and the box drain. It’s believed the native peoples helped with the project. We then move on to the find of the coconut fiber and it’s dating. The tree of life is also covered. Stones on the island form it. It’s also carved on the walls in Domme. Another researcher shows that geometrically speaking the stones forming Nolan’s cross are a part of the tree of life, some of the stones are just missing. The Freemasons are discussed. Many believe the Freemasons are the modern day Knights Templar. There are similarities between Templars and Freemason symbols, rites and rituals. The 9 chambers of a temple and also the 9 levels of wood planks are discussed. Possible treasure is also discussed, whether it’s something religious, gold, etc.

Synopsis: Drilling of DMT, 10 feet south of H8, is beginning. A recap takes place of Dome and the cross. They call Zena to tell her about the cross they found. She’s very impressed. Zena tells them it could date back to 1200 BC, as that is when Zanit first came to be. Doug Crowell tells her that a carving was in Dome that matches this figure. She confirms that they were most likely praying to her as she was the protectress of ships and sailors. They go on to tell her about the bones and their origin. The team begins working on a section of the swamp. They are going to drain it. Jack leads a team on an old dump site. Gary starts metal detecting. He finds a hinge, it’s similar to hinges he’s found on other chests. As he continues to detect, he finds another hinge. The brothers head back to the swamp. They lay out plywood over the sludge, so they can walk around and scan and detect. Rick finds another wooden spike like Fred Nolan found, in the northern point of the swamp. Marty is surprised he’s not more excited. At the DMT shaft, the casing has already advanced 75 feet. The drilling hits a snag when hydraulic fluid starts pouring out. It could be another obstruction. While the drilling system is being repaired they try to do a chisel to break the obstruction. The drilling company thinks they have broken through, so they start back with the hammer grab again and start pulling stuff up. But not everything is coming up. While everything is at a standstill, Gary starts metal detecting the spoils. They discover a good number of teeth from the casing is in the spoils pile. The team calls Marty and delivers the news of the teeth. Two options are available for moving forward.

Synopsis: We pick up at a depth of 170 feet where the brothers believe they have found the Chapel Vault. However, the casing didn’t even the vault but instead pushed it down and/or to the side. They did not get into the vault. In the war room, they all talk about the cross. They bring in an expert. He compares that cross to dated examples of medieval and Templar graffiti. It could be as old as the 13th century. Rick and Charles head up to meet with Fred Nolan’s son, Tom. His son is willing to help to try and finally solve the mystery. Tom shows them the survey maps. The detail and time and effort he put into it was far more than they had imagined. One of the things discussed is the stakes that Fred and Tom found in the swamp. They outlined the swamp. The father and son believe those stakes are proof that the swamp was mad made. Tom also gives them a folding skeleton key. Rick and Charles spread out all the maps on the floor to look at each one. Gary Drayton comes back to the island for more metal detecting. They also hire a crane operator to excavate a site from his maps. This is the location of an old dump site. They find a lot of pottery. Jack and Peter take all the possible book pieces to an expert. Almost immediately, one piece is confirmed to be parchment. The piece of purple wood is then presented. The expert tells them it’s an ink. He shows them a 2,000-year-old Egyptian Scroll. He informs them that this ink was only used for import church documents. Rick and Gary go visit Dan Blankenship with their newest finds. Gary shows him the cross they found at Smith’s Cove. Dan is just completely shocked and amazed. He recognizes it as lead.

Synopsis: From the war room, they call those that are not on the island and show them the cross. Laird is not quite sure what to make of it, as he has not seen anything like this before. Laird doesn’t think it’s been exposed to air, as there isn’t a white patina on it. Back at the money pit, the digging on H8 continues. Since hitting what appears to be a hard, flat surface they have switched to a slightly smaller can to continue the dig. Jack has found pottery in the spoils from about 150 feet deep. The brothers check in with the geologist. He feels the team is in some kind of vault or void. The vault seems to have disappeared. Rick and Gary Drayton head back to Smith’s Cove where they found the cross to do more metal detecting. Gary finds another piece of lead. It’s an odd shape and possibly a spoon. Gary feels that the storms are uncovering items. The spoils from 162 feet are examined and good things are found including a bone and pottery. Marty is frustrated that putting a small shaft in H8 got so many results but when going with the large casing they don’t get very much else. Craig thinks that whatever it was has either gone past it, or it was pushed out of the casing path. That evening another meeting takes place in the war room. They are getting new results from a metal detecting probe that was run down all the small-bore holes. The expert explains the results. It shows that at around 150 feet there are significant anomalies in H8. It also shows that not all the bore holes went straight down, some have deviated. Again, everyone meets in the war room with a few more people to decide on more drilling or to stop the drilling. They now want to take a look at an area south of where they have drilled. While deciding on the next drill site, Craig announces that he will be leaving the island for the rest of the season. He wants to be with his wife to grieve the loss of his son, Drake. They decide on the last hole and also to name it DMT after Drake.

Synopsis: At the money pit dig site, H8 is now at about 115 feet. A lot of wood is coming up. The team believes they’ve found the Chappell Shaft. Rick, Marty and the team meet with Doug Crowell in the war room. He’s brought an 8-page ships log. It speaks of landing on Oak Island prior to 1744. They got here before a French armada. Their orders were to take back Acadia. However, the fleet was overcome with storms, illness and lots of death. So that attack never happened. Dog reads the transcript of the ships log. It says they’re in the bay and carrying a large quantity of treasure. They dig a deep pit to bury and secure the treasure. Doug links it to the French family that Rick and his nephews met with. Rick checks on the H8 dig. The casing is at 155 feet and 150 feet for excavation. The depth of 160 feet is what they are watching for. The spoils from this section are being carefully monitored and gone through by Jack and also by Gary. Gary is getting some strong hits. Jacks finer pile of spoils has a lot of smaller wood pieces and also a piece of bone and more pottery. The oscillator has come to a stop at 170 feet. It seems to be sitting on something flat and it can’t cut through whatever it is. Is this the Chappell Vault? Rick and Marty speak with the lead to decide how to proceed. Jack also lets them know he’s run out of water to go through the spoils. Everyone meets in the war room to discuss and figure out how to move forward. The spoils from the zone of interest hasn’t been searched yet. The water ran out just as they got there. They decide to install a permanent inner casing so that they can explore the H8 shaft in more ways. The next day, the casing installation is beginning. Rick and Gary head back to Smith’s Cove at low tide to search and metal detect. They check the beach and inner tidal zone. He finds a bottle cap. He gets another hit and as Rick is digging it out, Gary gets seriously excited. He can actually see it’s a cross. It has a square hole and is heavy. Gary says it’s lead and possibly medieval. He gives a date of 1200 to 1600. Rick recognizes the shape of the cross. He saw a carving like it in the Templar prison in Dome. Gary insists it’s a religious artifact and that Rick have it looked at. The two call Marty and Craig via video. They’re just as shocked.
