Synopsis: The head of the Geotech drilling company stops by to check on the progress. At this point they’ve drilled 44 holes. The hole that they are most interested in is H8. They want to drill a 50” hole at this location. Meanwhile, Paul Speed, an area historian meets with the team. He tells them that a way to mine under the ocean floor was discovered in England. He also tells about Sir Francis Drake and an Inca city that he raided. He feels that there is a vault that has multiple treasures in it, but that it was also forgotten and that is why it’s been untouched so long. He continues on to say he believes Sir Francis Drake is buried on Oak Island. Jack, Charles, Gary Drayton and Laird go back to lot 26 to metal detect. They find a wall, but it looks different than the rest of the walls they have found on the island. While exploring the area, they find a square shape in the ground. Laird tells them that a permit is required to dig on that lot. At St. Mary’s the scrap turns out to be parchment. There is also a piece of black leather. She states its parts of a book and book binding. They find another depression. The area gets cleared so Marty can bring in the backhoe to excavate. While digging they find concrete but Marty can’t dig any deeper. The team gets additional information on the bones. One is European and the other is Middle Eastern. At the money pit, the equipment is being brought in to drill H8.

Synopsis: Digging in GAL1 continues. Lots of wood is coming up between 114 and 119 feet. On Lot 18 Marty, Charles and Gary Drayton are searching the spoils from the shaft. They find a sailing cloth needle. Gary says he found a gold coin, but it turns out to be a button. Later that day, two of the McGinnis sisters arrive on the island. The third sister passed away. Some of her ashes were put into a small sculpture. They’ve come to add her ashes to the McGinnis Foundation. After they all go to the museum. The sisters have brought the gold cross back for analysis by Dr. Lori. She is an art and antiquities expert. She is very intrigued by the cross. It’s high carat weight rose gold. It was made in a cast and the holes are for emeralds. Charles also gives her several other items to see. The tag she is able to see the word Ball on. Next, she examines the spike. The spike piques her interest and she opts to take it with her for further analysis. Back at the spoils pile, they continue to search for metal objects. They find a piece of metal that looks hammered and has a square hole. At GAL1 the grab brings up wood. Some of the piece’s measure 5 inches. As the grab keeps coming up its bring all different kinds of wood each time. Marty thinks it’s the side of an old searcher shaft. Dave Blakenship is not sure where the wood is coming from. They are all a bit excited. As the grab comes up you hear metal scraping. When it exits the tube, you see the metal hanging out of the grab. Closer examination shows it looks hand hammered and it’s heavy. Dave has no idea why it’s down there. Rick and Craig call Marty to let him know what’s going on. The two go through more spoils brought up and put on the land mover. They find pieces of charcoal. It could be the remains of a searcher furnace. It came at a depth of 154 feet. The manager running the dig comes to the brothers and lets them know that the drilling case has a metal object at about 154 feet and they can’t advance it anymore. They decide to lower in a chisel piece in to break up what’s stopping them from advancing. The team heads back to Dan’s house. Dr. Lori is there with the spike and answers. It’s a wrought iron spike that was used like a finishing nail on a Spanish Galleon deck. They tell her about the other spikes that Nolan found in the swamp. She goes on to say that the spike speaks to a date and the coin a culture. Jack is still uncertain and Dr. Lori confirms it’s 100% from a Spanish Galleon and that it could have been sailed by the Spanish or someone who was not Spanish could have procured it. The next day they are back at the money pit. They’ve chiseled through the metal layer and will be using a smaller grab for the next five feet or so. The grab brings up more metal. It’s a corner plate with holes. It’s hammered metal and the holes are not cleanly cut. It has a lot of marks on it too. The next grab brings up washers. They might have located the Chapel Vault or the real Money Pit. The objects coming up have never been documented as items used by previous searchers. Even the drilling team helps Marty and Rick go through the spoils. At 160 feet, multiple metal washers have been found. They are now grabbing below the casing and can only go as far as it will go safely. But it sounds like the grab might have caught on something. The operator says that he’s hooked something and it’s stuck at 160 feet. He tries several techniques to get it free and successfully brings it up. They suspend the dig for now as they can go back to the hole again next season. In the war room, they video conference Dr. Lori. The coin/button is the first thing she speaks about. She confirms it was a British military button dating to the mid-1700s. Next up is the corner hinge with holes. She says they were used to assemble treasure chests. It dates 1650 – 1800. Now they discuss their plan for next year. Rick won’t give up on the swamp. They’ll also continue in Smith’s Cove. The Money Pit is a big discussion and price point but they will continue there as well. Dan shares some wisdom about the next season. The team all says their goodbyes until next season.

Synopsis: The brothers look at all the timbers brought up from the third hole. It appears that it’s just been clay since those timbers were brought up. They are at around 120 feet depth at this point. This grab brings up a circular piece of wood. A wedge of wood is also brought up. A rainstorm hits and they can continue to work in the rain. Lightning starts and the crew is forced to shut down operations because of all the metal. The brothers take all their finds over to Dan’s house to get his opinion on them. Marty shows him the round log and asks if it could be one of the original logs found on the ten foot platforms. Dan holds his opinion until the carbon dating comes back. Rick, Charles and Jack take a couple of stonemasons to see Nolan’s Cross. The rock they show them is the one that is carved like a face. They determine it is sandstone. A second rock is shown to the masons. It’s the granite stone at the bottom of the cross. The two are speechless and believe it’s been altered by humans. The bottom is extremely smooth and it would have to have been drug a long distance to achieve that. The team meets later that night in the war room to discuss the carbon testing results. Results are from the 1600’s, including the round oak log. This round log is not the kind of material that any previous treasure hunter has used. It has to be from the original money pit. The storm has cleared enough that the money pit dig and bore hole T1 has resumed. Wood is not coming up anymore, just clay. The can is at 148 feet and so is the excavation. They are anticipating wood on this hammer grab, but it’s only clay. The next grab is only clay as well. The brothers are very confused that they are only getting clay. They’ve hit a wall, so to speak. The excavator teeth have hit something that may be metal and has brought them to a halt. They try to break though and the hammer grab brings up slate. It may be the bedrock. It is bedrock and this hole is terminated. Marty and Rick are both disappointed. Marty wants to quit and Charles gives him a pep talk. Back at the war room they regroup and call Craig and update him. Marty wants to give up on the money pit, but Rick won’t let him cry “Uncle!” Craig is on board for a fourth bore hole. Marty does not want Rick to have regrets, so they decide on a fourth hole. Rick gets to pick the fourth hole location. Rick already knows where he wants to dig. He wants to chase the debris field of a tunnel implosion during a dig in the late 1800’s. Marty likes his logic as well. Rick pays him a tribute. The next day Rick tells Andrew about the fourth hole and gives him the location of the hole. They mark it and label it GAL1. Andrew gets the equipment moved to dig the new hole. The excavating casing is swung into place.

Synopsis: The first two bore holes did not get them the results they wanted. They have let Craig pick the third bole hole. So far they have not hit water on this hole. In the war room, they speak with a researcher. He enlisted the help of a professor and his assistant to assist with the cipher. They’ve determined that French is the language the cipher was created in. A translation is brought about, but it’s incomplete. There is also an inscription on this cipher that translates to one of seven. Which means 6 other pieces are missing and all 7 are needed to solve the Oak Island mystery. Rick, Dan Henske and Jack head to Smith’s Cove the next day to continue searching for the box drains. For today’s work, they have hired a professional operator for the excavator. As the digging begins water starts pooling in the pit. They are forced to quickly set up a drainage pump to remove this new water. Jack jumps into the hole. There is a mysterious pattern of rocks. The archaeologist isn’t sure what it is either. It is determined to be an anomaly. They are forced to stop digging as they get too close to the coffer dam and they can’t risk compromising it for their own safety. In the war room, they meet with the owner of a small island just off the coast of Oak Island. He shows them surveys that were down on the island. It proves the island was man-made. He states that his island is connected by several tunnels to Oak Island. He presents additional pieces of evidence. After his presentation, he makes them an offer to be a consultant for one season to allow them to use the information he has. He’d get a 15% cut of anything found using that data. The whole team returns to Smith’s Cove. Marty hops in the excavator bucket to get lowered into the hole to examine it more closely. He determines it’s man-made. Dan makes the trip over. He believes it’s a box drain also known as a French drain. The coffer dam is too close to excavate the whole system. It would need to be reinstalled farther out and be considerably larger. The archaeologist states that it is a man-made structure. That afternoon, they head to T1 for an update on the progress. Vertical timbers have been pulled up. They’ve been hand cut. This find is a first for the team. A different kind of wood is also pulled up. It’s shaped like a log and based on the smell is very old. Craig wonders if it could be from the original money pit. They send a portion of it for testing.

Synopsis: Rick and Alex are still at the Roosevelt Library doing research. The Marie Antoinette crown jewels theory is discussed. Before heading back to the island Rick video chats with Marty and gives him a summary of what he saw and researched. Rick goes to visit Zena. The documentation and the new map she presented via video conference is discussed. In person, she shows them her research and also tells about the book she is writing about the Templars. Rick is shocked that the story of Oak Island could go back 1,000 years, but it’s still just a theory. Back on the island the focus is Smith’s Cove. They have a new coffer dam contractor and will try again to inflate it. It successfully inflates and they begin searching for the box drain system. As they excavate they find coconut fiber. Dan Henske is picking where they dig. But Jack halts everything quite excitedly. He has spotted wood that is blackened. They’ve asked Charles Barkhouse to come down and take a look. Another board has also been found. The team doesn’t know where to drill next in the money pit so they go to Dan’s house to look through his massive collection of data. Based on the data the brothers think that the holes they have drilled so far have just barely missed. Craig decides on the third drill hole. He’s trying to thread the needle and not hit previous drill shafts.
