Synopsis: The Geotech system drilling continues. Ten holes are completed so far. They hope that once all the shafts are drilled they will be able to identify some strong targets to drill a larger shaft on. Gary Drayton, Marty and David head to Lot 16 to metal detect. He gets a hit pretty quickly. It’s a broken nail. He also finds two coins. One coin has Charles on it and it’s the first they have found like this. It’s dated 1673. The other coin also dates to the 1600s. They head over to Dan’s to show him the coins. Dan’s excited. That afternoon at the money pit site they check in to see how the drilling is progressing. The current drill has hit an obstruction. There appears to be metal that came up in the spoils. A second larger piece came up as well. He’s his something quite hard with the drill and he can’t penetrate it. The choose to case it as it instead of using a different drill bit to go through it. The next day Rick calls everyone to meet about something. They’ve received a letter that halts all metal detecting and possibly shuts down the island. As Rick understands it, something they found in Samuel Ball’s lot is what has triggered this concern. Marty wants a face to face meeting to resolve this. The team is at the pub waiting for Marty and Rick to come back with news from their meeting about the letter. The government is getting pressured by the archeology community now. Laird is an archaeologist that has been working with them and they’ll ask him to come on full time. Laird comes out to the island at their request and he agrees to be an advisor to the team. They show him the interpretive center as well. It’s open to the public so anyone who wants to see what’s been found can. He applies for the newly required permit. It’s approved because Gary Drayton is back and Laird is there as well. He gets some hits and finds some 18th century spoon bowls. Another hit yields a good size piece of iron. After another tree is pulled up, Laird calls for the dig to stop. It looks as if it could be a foundation or something else. Stones are grouped together in a non-natural way. They can continue metal detecting but no more digging. Gary gets a hit in a set of roots. It’s a small piece of pewter.

Synopsis: Marty and Rick discuss drilling. They’re going to drill as much as possible. The Geotech team has arrived and is setting up to begin drilling. The original drill plan has 38 holes. The rose head spike is taken for testing. It’s an early iron, not a modern iron. Rick and Marty check in on the money pit process. All of the spoils are being searched by hand by a local geologist. During the process water starts flowing out of C-1. Rick tastes the water and it’s very salty. A flood tunnel could have been punctured and the two shafts are communicating or connected somehow. The plans to have a diver in C-1 will now have to wait. The team meets with Doug Crowell, a researcher. He did some research on what Gary Drayton found in a lot owned by Samuel Ball. Lot 26 was owned by Captain James Anderson, who was a privateer and a pirate. He wound up being labeled a traitor. He’s also tracked down a descendant of Captain Anderson who has agreed to talk to the team. Several members of the team go to meet this man. They learn he was both a pirate and a spy. His ship was called the Betsy. He lets them look at the Captain’s sea chest which looks like a treasure chest. Inside, there is paperwork proving he’s a mason. There is also a set of four keys. One opens the chest in front of them, but what do the other three open? Back on the island, the metal detecting continues with Gary Drayton. He finds a musket ball. Part of a coin is also found. Rick and Marty come down to the beach to see the finds. The two are excited.

Synopsis: Rick heads back to the island early. He learns that the road that goes back to the money pit has been almost completely washed out by the winter storms. They are forced to divert resources to rebuilding the road as quickly as possible. In just a week there will be heavy equipment being brought in for the money pit. From the war room they call Marty and update him. He is shocked. The money pit area is going to get a Geotech grid drill to try and narrow down its actual location. Marty is excited. The storm could have uncovered new clues to be found with a metal detector. Rick wants to put a camera down C-1. Rick asks how Craig is doing. His song Drake died recently from complications of a grand mal seizure. Reconstruction of the south shore road continues as Gary Drayton arrives to do some metal detecting. The pair is going to search at Issac’s Point. A remote camera is brought in to take a look at C-1. The camera goes down slowly. As it gets close to the bottom, clarity is quite good. They spot some items on the shaft floor that they think are looking at some different man made objects: a hook, some link chains and a few other items. Rick calls Marty. He wants to bring a diver in to go down C-1 again. At the metal detecting location they find a wood cutters ax head. A coin is also discovered. Now the GAL1 spoils get searched. Marty, Craig and Jack arrive. They are surprised to see Craig and Jack because of what happened to his son. The three get an update on what’s happened since their last chat. A company called Prohawk is brought in to enhance the video footage just taken in C-1. The enhancement software and the man who created it confirms these objects appear to be man made. The diver Mike Huntly arrives to do a dive. All precautions are there including an ambulance and a decompression chamber. The team watches the video feed as Mike is lowered down the shaft in a bosen’s chair. It actually kicks up all the silt which is what he was hoping not to do. He’s asked to metal detect the perimeter floor. He gets a hit with the metal detector. He’s trying to chisel it out of the wall. He collects samples from the floor. At this point he has been down 30 minutes. It’s just about double the amount of time he should have been down there. When they get him up he has to go in the decompression chamber for 71 minutes to try and prevent him from getting the bends. He does bring up the bag of samples, however, it winds up having nothing they saw in the video. A metal spike is found in the GAL1 spoils it’s actually a rose head nail. Everyone heads over to Dan’s to discuss the money pit. The metal detectors arrive with stuff to show them. Dan also thinks it’s a rose head spike. When he asks where the spike was found he’s told it was from GAL1. Dan rubs it in that they missed it. They all get together in the war room and discuss the finds to date. Future dives will now be single task dives so as to not cause him to stay down longer than is safe. They also address Drake’s passing as well. They do a tribute to him as well.
