Favorite Quotes:

* Dorothy: Oh Blanche, what are you doing lining shelves on a Friday night?
Blanche: I’m workin’ off all my excess sexual energy.
Dorothy: Why don’t we just hook you up to the toaster and make Pop-Tarts?

* Rose: Oh, maybe I’m crazy to be so attracted to someone I hardly know, but I can’t help it. I’ve been dying for him to ask me out, but we never really talk, we just dance.

* Rose: You know, you can learn a lot about a man just by the way he holds you in his arms. Whether he’s kind, sensitive, caring.
Blanche: He dipped you, didn’t he?
Rose: All evening.
Blanche: Oh, Lord. So long since I’ve been dipped.

* Dorothy: Blanche, I didn’t know you went out. Are you coming back from a date?
Blanche: You know, Dorothy, sometimes you can be so cruel.

* Blanche: Well, I saw a very attractive man in power tools. I piqued his interest with the usual hardware questions. “Where does this go?” “What does this do?” And he followed me to plumbing, where I bought a see-through shower curtain.
Dorothy: And, uh, where is he now? Tied to the roof rack of your car? Blanche: No, there was something about him that turned me off. I think it was the way he cleaned his ears with his keys.

* Rose: When we’re on the dance floor, it feels like we’re made for each other. But tonight, with all his brilliant friends at the party, I felt like a fish out of water. Oh, sure I didn’t flop around on the floor with my eyes bulging out gasping for air. I haven’t done that at a party in years.

* Dorothy: Oh, now, Rose, don’t say you’re going to feel stupid. You are not stupid. You just march to a different drummer.
Sophia: Yeah, the little windup monkey banging on the snare drum.

* Blanche: All he did all night was talk about you. How sweet Rose is. How attractive Rose is. How much fun Rose is. I might as well have worn a bra.
Rose: Did he really say that? You’re not just making that up?
Blanche: I never make up stories where I come out lookin’ bad. He also said he’s going to the ballroom tonight, and he hopes you’ll be there.

* Dorothy: Stop complaining, Blanche. Look at all the available men here. You shouldn’t have any problem.
Blanche: Are you kiddin’? This is gonna be just like fishin’ in one of those trout farms.

* Miles: Your stories are very refreshing, Rose. It’s like driving in the country and getting lost. You may not know where you are, but you always have a good time finding your way out.

Summary:

Blanche is lining shelves in the kitchen. It’s been five weeks since she has had a date. She’s quite upset. Dorothy tries to boost her spirits. Rose comes home and she has a new man with her. His name is Miles. He’s her dancing partner at the ballroom. Sophia made some money off the old guys who wanted to dance with her too. Miles invites Rose to be his date tomorrow for a coworkers retirement party. Rose accepts. After Miles leaves she tells everyone how much she likes him. She tells them what a good dancer he is and often he dips her. The next evening she arrives at his place for the retirement party. However, his friends leave Rose feeling very uncomfortable. Blanche comes back to the house. She went to the hardware store to try and pick up a man, but didn’t have any luck. Rose leaves early from Miles’ party. She tells the girls she felt out of her element with all his professor friends. But on the dance floor it’s like they are made for each other. Dorothy suggests she invite Miles over to level the playing field. It’s now the evening where Miles comes over for dinner. It’s going well. Rose thanks the girls for steering the conversation towards topics she is smart at. Miles tells a joke that only Dorothy gets. Then he invites Rose out on another date. She thinks its to a sporting event but Dorothy tells her its a composer. Embarrassed, Rose leaves the lanai. She asks Dorothy to make an excuse for her. She doesn’t feel smart enough to keep seeing Miles. Miles calls and calls. He hopes Rose will meet him at the concert hall. She sends Blanche in her place. Another day and Sophia is pushing Rose to get ready to go dancing with her. She does not want to run into Miles. Blanche comes back from the concert. All Miles did was talk about Rose. He hopes to see her at the ballroom. Rose asks them all to come with her to the ballroom for support. Miles finally arrives and questions Rose about her recent behavior. He tells her he likes her very much and they dance the night away.
