Favorite Quotes:
+Rose: Oh, Dorothy, you mustn’t feel so bad. Why, this is a big day for you, too. A girl always remembers the first time she gets flowers.+Sophia: Dorothy. My poor, sweet, dead-end Dorothy. You’re sending flowers to yourself again, aren’t you?
Dorothy: Why is it so hard to believe that I am being chased by two men?
+Blanche: Oh, come on, Dorothy, how much trouble can I get into in a public place?
Dorothy: How soon we forget the Greyhound terminal incident.
+Sophia: If this is true, I’m rooting for Sonny – you know, the paisan. Besides, there’s something about this guy that just honks me off.
+Blanche: My husband who abandoned me nine years ago, and shows up now just to tell me he couldn’t stand being married to me.
+George: My business was collapsing. I was facing disgrace, Blanche. I could’ve stayed and faced the music, but it’s just this damn Southern pride. It’s the same Southern pride that kept me from being a dancer.
Blanche: George, please, I’ve had enough surprises for one day.
+Blanche: I just can’t believe how much my life has changed these past six hours. George is back. He wants to get together. I don’t know what to do.
+Dorothy: Oh, now, this is ridiculous. I do not want two grown men fighting over me.
Sophia: Pussycat, how many chances are you gonna get?
Dorothy: Proceed.
+Rose: Blanche, this isn’t about getting even. For nine years you’ve been missing George. Well, he’s here and I’m jealous of you. Tell him you love him, tell him you hate him, I don’t care. But just see him before he leaves. Do it for yourself. Do it for all of us who wish we had the chance.
Summary:
Dorothy is excited that she got two bouquets of flowers. But she enters the kitchen to find that Blanche has received dozens and dozens of roses and flowers and she sours. Blanche looks at Dorothy’s flowers and sees they are from celebrities: Lyle Waggoner and Sonny Bono. Dorothy tells them she saw a production of Equus and both were in it and all of their eyes met and sparks flew. Blanche then tells them that her secret admirer wants to meet her. The girls decide to go with her for safety. At the restaurant, Lyle shows up and sings to Dorothy. He annoys Sophia and now she’s rooting for Sonny. Blanche is informed there is someone waiting for her at the bar. He comes to the table and Blanche nearly has a heart attack. He looks exactly like her dead husband George. He starts talking and it is her dead husband George, but he’s not so dead after all. He follows her back to the house. He tells her he staged his death. While she is processing this, Sonny arrives. She tells him to go to the lanai and brushes him off. Blanche is hurt by what George has done. He finally tells her what happened. His partner was embezzling from the company and making it look like it was him. He tells her how much he’s missed her. He asks Blanche to be his wife again. Sophia tells a story, but this time it takes place in Germany not Sicily. She was a spy. Then Rose tells a St. Olaf story. The next day both of Dorothy’s sutors show up. They want her to make a decision. She picks Sonny. Meanwhile, Sonny has created some charges against Lyle and he gets arrested. Blanche has decided to continue living without George. Rose is upset and she wishes she could have another chance with Charlie. Blanche is more concerned by what George did and punishing him. George returns to say goodbye. They go to Blanche’s room to talk. They relive some memories. Blanche wakes. Dorothy enters to check on her. Dorothy asks her if she had the dream again. Everyone winds up in Blanche’s dream. Blanche tells them she got to hug George. They are happy for her as she’s never gotten to hug him in the dream before. Dorothy asks if they were in the dream. She says yes and that she picked Sonny. Dorothy is thrilled. They all say good night.
