+Dorothy: Wait a minute. Here’s our walking playground now.

+Dorothy: Ma. Ma. He’s not old. He’s a perfectly healthy young man.
Sophia: Just be home before midnight, Dorothy.

+Dorothy: Oh, I can. It happened to me. When Stanley walked out, I was so devastated, I locked myself in my bedroom. It was the one place that didn’t remind me of Stan. And I just never wanted to come out. Fortunately, someone was there to get me out of that room. Thanks, Ma.

+Sophia: No matter how bad things get, remember these sage words – you’re old, you sag, get over it.

+Blanche: My mistake. I thought since you looked like Yoda, you were also wise.

+Jimmy: So many years inside, I forgot how much I love to travel.

+Jimmy: Boy, you can’t trust anybody. I thought this place wasn’t gonna be my prison anymore. I thought for a second I remembered what “happy” was. Well, thanks, Dorothy. I’m never gonna leave this apartment again.
Dorothy: “Miracle worker.” I’m an idiot.

+Dorothy: Stop being so vain. You can’t stay 42 forever.
Blanche: Yes, you can… if you eat right, exercise regularly and live with women who look a lot older than you.

+Dorothy: I was in over my head. I played with fire, and I lost.

+Jimmy: After meeting you, I don’t want to be alone anymore. You’re my friend, and if there’s nice people like you out here, maybe the world’s not such a bad place.

+Blanche: Rose, this is just a great party and the perfect gift. How’d you know what I needed? Oh, you. Come here.

Summary:

Sophia fakes a heart attack. She wants a favor from Dorothy. Blanche comes home from her date. Her date was very young, much younger than who she usually dates. Rose points out that she hasn’t dated men this young since around the same time last year. Dorothy realizes that Blanche’s birthday is coming. Sophia wants some assistance from Dorothy to deliver food for Meals on Wheels. Sophia comments on Dorothy’s lack of dating life compared to Gloria. During the deliveries Dorothy gets frustrated because Sophia stays and chats with everyone and it takes a while to complete the deliveries. There is one where Sophia doesn’t visit. It turns out he’s a younger man. He’s a bit freaked out by Dorothy. Dorothy and Sophia then try talking to him to understand what’s going on. He tells them he hasn’t left the apartment in 22 years. Back at the house, they all discuss Jimmy. Dorothy’s taken an interest and is functioning almost like a therapist for him. They discuss the 60s. Dorothy informs them when Stan left she didn’t want to leave either. She locked herself in her bedroom because it didn’t remind her of Stan. Blanche admits her birthday has her depressed as well. She asks Sophia to cheer her up, but it doesn’t work. Meanwhile, Rose wants to know the correct date of Blanche’s birthday. She’s pulled every record publicly available. Dorothy is shocked she did it. But she wants to know too. However, they don’t get an answer. Every document says “deleted by authority of the governor.” The phone rings and it’s Jimmy. He’s tired of isolating and asks Dorothy to come over. But it triggers an ego trip from Dorothy. Sophia is concerned. At his apartment, with Dorothy’s help, he takes three steps outside of his apartment. She congratulates him and speaks about a counselor but he has a different thought. He asks Dorothy to live with him. He’s developed feelings for her, but she hasn’t for him. He feels very rejected. The girls try to cheer Dorothy up. Then Rose tells a St. Olaf story. Dorothy wants to call Jimmy to see if he is ok but Sophia doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Instead they go and do their Meals on Wheels route. Rose starts talking about games for Blanche’s party. And now Blanche realizes why Rose has been trying to figure out her age. She then insults the girls about how they look older than her. Dorothy and Sophia get to Jimmy’s apartment on the route. She plays hardball and starts naming some names. Jimmy finally lets them in. He has a weird argument with Dorothy. They finally talk. Dorothy’s car gets towed. But Dorothy finally breaks through to him. They all go to the grocery store. However, an alarm goes off as Jimmy is the contest winner. He runs screaming from the grocery store. Later, Blanche returns from a walk. She admits that today is her birthday. She admits it’s been a good birthday. She is still young and vibrant and energetic. She’s grateful that she has the girls, her family. Meanwhile, Dorothy feels guilty over causing more harm to Jimmy. She gets interrupted by the doorbell. It’s Jimmy. She left her sweater and he brought it back to her. She’s shocked. He walked all the way there. He meets Rose and Blanche. He will go to a counselor if Dorothy will drive him. They go to the kitchen for coffee, but Blanche’s surprise party is waiting there. It’s all her boyfriends. She’s thrilled.
