Summary:
Rose is wearing an ice skating outfit and has ice skates. She plans to enter the US Senior Sports Classic. Becky is coming and Sophia will be staying with Dorothy. They discuss Becky’s choice to get artificially inseminated. The next day, Rose is walking around the house in ankle weights. Her ice skating coach says it will help strengthen her ankles. Sophia finds it insulting and asks if they make any for her head. Becky arrives. She loves being pregnant but the hormones are killing her. Becky speaks of having the baby in Miami. But Blanche is not happy. Becky is nervous about having the baby alone. Rose tells a St. Olaf story about baby deliveries. Becky asks again about having the baby there. She tells them she is having the baby in a birthing center not a hospital. This causes some concern for Blanche. They all go to see the birthing center and Sophia comments that Blanche’s room is better equipped to have a baby. And there’s a better chance of finding a doctor. The tour guide informs them there is a mommy in the making. The screaming frightens Becky along with everyone else. They sneak out. Back at the house they eat cheesecake. Rose is not doing well at her figure skating. They each tell stories about giving birth to a child. Blanche giving birth to her first child. Dorothy giving birth to Kate. Sophia giving birth to Dorothy. And Rose giving birth to Kirsten. Becky decides to have the baby in a hospital. Blanche volunteers to go to Atlanta with her. But Becky decides to stay in Miami. Blanche is not happy, she’s embarrassed. Becky gets upset and tells her she’ll leave the next day. That night Beckey goes to Dorothy. She’s in labor. Everyone goes a little crazy. Blanche comes in to find out what all the noise is about. She goes into mother mode, surprisingly. Rose’s ice skating coach shows up at the hospital instead of the lamaze coach. The coach has to return order to the room. Becky’s labor takes a while. Out in the waiting room they discuss disappointing their parents. They convince Rose to quit ice skating. Meanwhile, Becky’s labor is still progressing slowly. Blanche is not helping because she is treating her like a child. They fight. But then they make up and Blanche gives a beautiful motherly speech. The only one in the series I think. The baby finally comes. It’s a little girl.
