Favorite Quotes:

* Sophia: Boy, am I steamed! They took Pat Sajak off Wheel of Fortune.
Blanche: Well, that’s because he has his own late-night talk show now.
Sophia: Oh, yeah, right. The man spins a big wooden wheel for eight years, suddenly he’s discussing detente with Henry Kissinger. What else happened lately? Mike Tyson hosting Masterpiece Theatre?

* Dorothy: You just taught a bunch of eight-year-old boys that it’s more important to win than to play by the rules.

* Dorothy: Rose, rules were made for people like Billy. Little bodies don’t like it when big bodies fall on them.

* Blanche: Girls, quick. I need some advice.
Sophia: Wear half as much makeup and twice as much underwear. Take it as a standing recommendation.

* Dorothy: For God’s sake, Rose, Eisenhower used less chalk planning D-day.

* Sophia: You think Danny DeVito got to be famous with his good looks? There’s nothing wrong with being small, kid, but it is wrong to cheat. If you learn in life to follow the rules and play fair, you’ll be heads above the crowd.

* Dorothy: Ma, Ma, that is a mean, underhanded, despicable thing to do. Sophia: So was World War II. We’re talkin’ about Mussolini.

Summary:

Sophia is upset because Pat Sajak is no longer hosting Wheel of Fortune. Blanche explains he has his own talk show now and she quips about him and Mike Tyson hosting the theater. Rose comes home. She is coaching a kids football team. She asks Dorothy to be her assistant coach. Blanche is leaving for another date with Tom Gallagher. The girls point out he stands her up and hurts her a lot. She replies she ignores him since he buys her lobster.  But now she’s at a restaurant and it’s the fourth time she has been stood up in a row. She talks with another man, John Quinn, who was also stood up. She gives him her number as she leaves. She doesn’t notice something rather important about the man. John is blind. After she leaves the bartender gives him his cane. Rose and Dorothy are coaching the team. But Dorothy disagrees with Rose’s methods and is worried about the kids’ safety. Meanwhile, Blanche is getting ready for her date with John and she asks the girls for advice. He arrives on time and Rose is the first one to learn he is blind. She comes out ready to go and still not realizing that John is blind puts her foot in her mouth. He’s quite kind about it though. They head off to dinner. It’s now football practice for Rose and Dorothy’s team. Rose makes it overcomplicated. Dorothy loses her patience as she is vilified by Rose as the reason they will lose the game. It’s now been a week since Blanche started seeing John and they’ve gone out every night. Blanche is quite smitten it seems. However, she gets a call from Tom Gallagher and instantly cancels on John. Dorothy confronts her about John. She doesn’t feel it will work because he can’t see her and men have always loved her for how she looks, not her personality. It’s game day but Rose and Dorothy have come down with the flu. They try Sophia’s home remedy but Sophia is shocked to see them try to eat it. She says you put a glop on the vaporizer. Sophia volunteers to be the coach. Blanche comes back as Sophia is leaving. She is upset about her decisions and words from the previous night. It’s just been driving her crazy because she can’t figure out what John likes about her. Sophia is getting the kids ready for the game. She follows the rules and teaches them to follow the rules. She then gives Billy a meatball and pepper sandwich to each so he will make weight and can play. Blanche goes to meet John to apologize and explain. He understands and they make plans for the next week. Sophia comes back with the team to celebrate their win. She had them all pile on the quarterback in the first play so the second stringer would have to play instead. She did play Billy after he ate the sandwich and made weight, but he got a cramp and wasn’t able to play more than one play.
