Synopsis: At the money pit dig site, H8 is now at about 115 feet. A lot of wood is coming up. The team believes they’ve found the Chappell Shaft. Rick, Marty and the team meet with Doug Crowell in the war room. He’s brought an 8-page ships log. It speaks of landing on Oak Island prior to 1744. They got here before a French armada. Their orders were to take back Acadia. However, the fleet was overcome with storms, illness and lots of death. So that attack never happened. Dog reads the transcript of the ships log. It says they’re in the bay and carrying a large quantity of treasure. They dig a deep pit to bury and secure the treasure. Doug links it to the French family that Rick and his nephews met with. Rick checks on the H8 dig. The casing is at 155 feet and 150 feet for excavation. The depth of 160 feet is what they are watching for. The spoils from this section are being carefully monitored and gone through by Jack and also by Gary. Gary is getting some strong hits. Jacks finer pile of spoils has a lot of smaller wood pieces and also a piece of bone and more pottery. The oscillator has come to a stop at 170 feet. It seems to be sitting on something flat and it can’t cut through whatever it is. Is this the Chappell Vault? Rick and Marty speak with the lead to decide how to proceed. Jack also lets them know he’s run out of water to go through the spoils. Everyone meets in the war room to discuss and figure out how to move forward. The spoils from the zone of interest hasn’t been searched yet. The water ran out just as they got there. They decide to install a permanent inner casing so that they can explore the H8 shaft in more ways. The next day, the casing installation is beginning. Rick and Gary head back to Smith’s Cove at low tide to search and metal detect. They check the beach and inner tidal zone. He finds a bottle cap. He gets another hit and as Rick is digging it out, Gary gets seriously excited. He can actually see it’s a cross. It has a square hole and is heavy. Gary says it’s lead and possibly medieval. He gives a date of 1200 to 1600. Rick recognizes the shape of the cross. He saw a carving like it in the Templar prison in Dome. Gary insists it’s a religious artifact and that Rick have it looked at. The two call Marty and Craig via video. They’re just as shocked.
