Summary:
Blanche decides to go on a diet. She wants to fit in her wedding dress as her anniversary with George is coming up. She has her picture taken in the dress every year. Dorothy gets a call from John Noretti. He was supposed to take her to her Senior Prom and he never showed. Sophia doesn’t want her to call him back. She’s going to. She wants him to see what he missed out on and get some revenge. It is now the night of her date with John Noretti. Sophia begs her not to go. Blanche is continuing her two shakes and a meal diet. Everyone else is still eating whatever they would like. John arrives. He gives Dorothy a compliment and she randomly blurts out, “I love you.” She covers quickly with introductions. She talks weirdly as they leave. They talk and she learns that now he makes spray paint. He asks her out again on friday. She tells him she is chaperoning the senior prom so she can’t. He asks if he can go with her. She chides him and tells him to show up this time. He tells her he showed up for the last prom, but Sophia sent him away. Back at the house, Dorothy asks Sophia for a chat. Rose knows that tone of voice and realizes Sophia is in trouble. Dorothy confronts Sophia about what happened. She told John to go put on proper clothes and then come back. He did not come back. Sophia was worried Dorothy wouldn’t forgive her. Dorothy informs her that night damaged her self esteem and is what led her to go out with Stanley in the first place. Dorothy’s point is that Sophia took a choice from her that changed the course of her life. Another day and Blanche is looking for her sensible meal which is a quiche. But Rose accidentally ate it as a snack. She is upset but decides she’ll have her shake. But Rose drank that too. John comes over to take Dorothy to the prom. Rose takes their picture. Blanche also comes out in her wedding dress. Everyone is surprised that it’s red. She’s very candid about how considering her history white was not appropriate. After the dance, they both confessed they each wanted the other to see how well they had turned out. The first prom is discussed. But John surprises her. He tells her Sophia told him off and that he wasn’t good enough and Dorothy deserved better. He tells her it was a turning point for him. He started growing up. They kiss good night and plan to get together next time he’s in town. Dorothy enters the house and Sophia is scared for her life. They wind up having a heart to heart.
