They conclude it spent several hundred years in the swamp. They put the coin in citric acid to clean it and remove the oxidation. The date on the coin is 1652. They head to where they acquired the metal detecting equipment for answers. They’re told that metals underwater can bleed, they will begin to break down and trigger false readings. They plan to run the metal detectors again over the swamp while it’s frozen. Back on the island a sled as been built for the metal detector sweep. They remove some trees and vegetation sticking out of the swamp so they can scan the entire thing. They also spray paint a grid onto the frozen ice to make plotting hits easier. The scanning is not going well. As Rick starts to get frustrated they get a big spike. They go to Dan’s and tell him that the same area spike again on the metal detector. The experts go over the data with everyone. There is a spot that is 15 to 20 feet long and about 3 feet wide that has a non-ferrous signature. Back at the swamp Tony is diving at the Mercy Point, the location of the Spanish coin was found. Tony finds a strange shape in the mud. He pulls up a big tree stump. They plan to get the stump tested to determine age. Rick and Marty fight over the swamp. Rick lets the team know he has submitted for permits to both drain and dig on the swamp. Peter comes in with a newspaper. A member of the government is trying to take over the island and anything discovered there. This proposed legislation means that they will shift back to the Money Pit until the issue is resolved. They bring in a drilling rig and shore it up to start drilling another core.
