Favorite Quotes:

+Dorothy: Oh, Blanche, are you pretending you just found your first gray hair again?
Blanche: Dorothy, just because you have to walk around lookin’ like an English lawyer doesn’t mean everybody has to.

+Dorothy: You know, it’s amazing. Beneath that thin veneer of superficiality, somehow, miraculously, there is another even thinner veneer.

+Blanche: Mel and I have something really unique. We’re like – I don’t know. What do you call it when two people get together when they need somebody but don’t make demands on each other when they’re apart?
Sophia: Out-call massage.

+Dorothy: Well, he is the zipper king. Maybe he got stuck in traffic.

+Dorothy: No, I just feel you should ask more probing questions.
Rose: Okey-dokey. Let’s see. Ah. Isn’t it a fact that you have a drawer full of retirement home brochures and you’re just waiting for the first sign of dribble on your mother’s chin to lock her away forever?

+Blanche: I couldn’t be intimate with just anybody.
Sophia: Oh, yeah? What about the guy who painted our address on the curb?
Blanche: You make it sound like it was a one-night stand. He’ll be back when it’s faded.

+Blanche: I just always figured he’d be available, and he was. Oh, girls, he’s always been there for me. I just took him for granted.

+Blanche: Do you realize how rare it is to find out the person you’ve been sleeping with is the person you love?
Rose: No, but you can’t go by me. I have morals.

+Dorothy: I don’t believe this. Rose, this was the opportunity of a lifetime, a one-in-a-million shot. How could – How could – How could they not have given you the job? Maybe the issue here is one of – Oh, God, what can we call it? Editorial judgment.

+Blanche: You know, I learned something tonight. A relationship is more than sex and fun and videos and good times. Thank God this isn’t a relationship.

Summary:

Blanche is upset because her date canceled on her. She wasn’t excited about the date, but maybe she would have met someone she actually liked. Not wanting to stay home she calls her backup, Mel Bushman. He doesn’t answer and she is surprised. Rose is testing glasses to see if they fog up or not. Rose surprises everyone by saying she finds her job at the tv station boring and unexciting. Rose thinks about trying out for a weekend reporter position that is open. The girls have her practice interviewing with her. She asks her about being a substitute teacher, but Dorothy admits it is not the most exciting question. Rose takes a different track and asks about all the retirement home brochures Dorothy has hidden in her room. Dorothy is taken aback and Sophia is offended. Blanche interrupts the drama and tells them she still has not been able to reach Mel Bushman. Blanche starts waxing poetic about him. Then Rose tells a partial St. Olaf story. But the guy ends up dead in her story. This freaks out Blanche and now she wants everyone to go with her to make sure he’s not dead. They arrive and there are a couple weeks worth of newspapers untouched. Blanche starts freaking out. She has a key, a ring of keys actually. She finally finds Mel’s. She admits she took him for granted. He comes in while they are there. He was on vacation. Blanche goes a little overboard. And she and Mel are on again. Rose has been given her assignment for the reporter spot. It’s a dog show. Blanche has a date with Mel and she’s excited. Dorothy and Sophia roast Blanche a little. Then go with Rose to the dog show. As Rose starts to film someone comes in to rob the dog show. She continues to interview people under tables and in hiding spots instead of covering the robbery. Meanwhile, Blanche’s date has some hiccups. They talk and go back to the way they were. At the house Rose is upset because she didn’t get the job. They watch footage and discover Rose didn’t cover the robbery at all. Dorothy tries to make her feel better about it. Blanche heads off to spend the evening with Mel.
