Summary:
Blanche announces to the girls that she got a big bonus at work. She’s going to use it to get breast implants. Everyone is shocked and horrified. Sophia has just come back from visiting her friend Lillian at Shady Pines. Only Lillian wasn’t there. Someone else was in her room. Sophia doesn’t know where her friend is. Blanche hears and tells them she took a call from Gladys. Lillian was moved to Sunny Pastures. Sophia becomes upset telling the girls it’s the worst nursing home in the city. She needs to check on Lillian. Blanche has pamphlets for her breast surgery. Rose doesn’t know what to think of all the pictures laid out on the table. She is confused by all the choices. Sophia and Dorothy return from Sunny Pastures. Dorothy confirms how horrible the place is. Sophia then sees all the brochures on the table and yells at Blanche some more. Sophia decides she wants to visit Lillian as often as she can. Sophia goes with Rose days later and visits Lillian. However, visiting hours are over. Sophia pretends she wants information on checking someone in. When the man goes off to get an administrator, Sophia tells Rose they are breaking Lillian out. Sophia sends Rose off to find Lillian. It takes her a few tries but she finally finds her. They make a run for it while Sophia causes a distraction. The next morning, Blanche returns from her plastic surgeon appointment. Sophia and Dorothy are exhausted as they were taking care of Lillian all night long. She never slept. Dorothy did call the home to check Lillian out for a week-long visit. Lillian joins them in the kitchen. She’s confused as to where she is and what she ate last. She gets upset and a glass gets broken. Dorothy takes her for a bath so Sophia can rest. Everyone takes shifts to watch and help Lillian. 24 hours have already felt like a week. Blanche tells a story. All four convene in the kitchen to discuss Lillian. They cannot take care of her, it’s too much. But at the same time, Sunny Pastures is not taking proper care of her either. Dorothy decides the best course of action is to talk to the person in charge of Sunny Pastures. She takes Sophia with her. Dorothy makes an impassioned plea. The administrator agrees with her. He explains the situation. His hands are tied based on funding. But he’s open to any ideas to make it better. He would love to make it better. Blanche surprises everyone and tells them she found a better place for Lillian. There’s a cost difference and she’ll use her bonus to cover it instead of getting new breasts. It should give Lillian two years at the better rest home. The girls then make a pact to take care of each in the future no matter what.
