Favorite Quotes:

* Blanche: I don’t want a TV crew coming in here, messing up my kitchen, setting up all that video equipment.
Rose: How about shooting it in your bedroom, Blanche? The equipment’s already set up.

* Dorothy: I can’t understand how you could forget to tell Rose about that accident.
Sophia: Forgive me, my memory’s not as good as it used to be. Nothing on me is as good as it used to be. Once upon a time, I had a butt you could bounce a quarter on. Now you could lose a Krugerrand in the creases.

* Director: Miss, this’ll only take a second.
Rose: It’ll only take a second to knock you on your keister, buddy. What’s it gonna be?
Director: Look, if I wanted this kind of abuse, I’d be directing The Roseanne Barr Show.

* Blanche: Rose, are you all right?
Rose: Never better. Why do you ask?
Blanche: Maybe because yesterday you acted like a crazy person?
Rose: Oh, yeah, I’m sorry. I was a little on edge. Don’t worry, it won’t happen again.

* Blanche: Have you ever considered the possibility that you might be dependent on them?
Rose: Are you calling me an addict? I really resent that.

* Blanche: I thought you said you could take these or leave ’em.
Rose: That’s true, and right now, I wanna take them.
Dorothy: Rose, you can’t stop taking these pills. You have a problem.

* Sophia: Aw, give her some credit. The woman has never told a lie in her life. Nobody does it great the first time.

* Sophia: I’m just glad you got that monkey off your back.
Rose: I never had a monkey on my back, Sophia. Although, when I was a child, I had a chicken named Gordon. Oh, and what a great chicken! And he was a great singer, too.

Summary:

Dorothy makes malts for everyone. Sophia joins them and tells them about a new pizzeria that opened. They would like Sophia to do a commercial for them. Sophia wants to film it in their kitchen but Blanche does not like this idea. Rose suggests shooting it in Blanche’s bedroom where she has video equipment already set up. Rose is looking for a bottle of missing medication. Sophia confesses she accidently knocked it over the day before and forgot to tell Rose about it. Rose is a bit panicked and goes to her room to check if she has an extra bottle. Later, Sophia brings the director to the house. He sees Dorothy and thinks a mother daughter commercial would be great. Blanche again says she doesn’t want a bunch of strangers in the house until she is told she’ll get paid $1,000 per day. Then she jumps on board. It’s now filming day and Rose refuses to allow anyone in the kitchen. She’s making a special cake and it’s very delicate. She does not want it to collapse. Everyone comes into the kitchen anyway. Rose, again, asks everyone to leave. When she is ignored she threatens the director. This causes everything to halt. Rose is completely livid. Blanche is shocked by her behavior and asks her if she is ok. She reacts in an aggressive way. The next day Sophia is heading off to an acting lesson. The commercial is back on, but will be filmed elsewhere. Blanche is not happy to be losing $1,000 a day. Rose joins them and is acting normally again. She even says she enjoyed meeting the director yesterday. Everyone is surprised by that statement based on how she acted yesterday. Blanche asks her if she is ok. Rose replies telling her that she was on edge yesterday and is fine now. Then they ask her about the pills she is holding. She then tells them about a farming accident she had when she was just 17. She tells them that she has been taking the pills for about 30 years. (this would make her about 47 even though she is in 50s during the show). Blanche suggests that maybe Rose has an addiction to the pills. Rose is immediately offended by this and gets angry. She gives the girls the pills and walks away. Days later, Rose is in the kitchen very upset. She is clearly suffering the effects of withdrawal. She is in the kitchen looking for her pills. They all sit down and talk. Rose is afraid to stop the pills. The girls offer to help her find a rehabilitation center for the problem. Rose wants to try quitting the pills cold turkey if the girls will stay with her. They are worried. It’s a long term addiction and it should be supervised by a doctor to protect Rose’s health. To help her get through the night they stay up with her and play games. As the night wears on Rose tells them she really doesn’t feel well and needs a pill. They try to encourage but she gets upset. She tells them that they have no idea what she is going through. Blanche tells a story to try and keep Rose’s mind off how she is feeling. They finally make it through the night and head off to get some sleep. Sophia is now trying to shoot the commercial with Dorothy. Dorothy is struggling. The director winds up pulling Dorothy and using someone else as a granddaughter instead. Back at the house, Rose is taking a pill. It turns out to be a vitamin. But Rose admits she took one of her pills last night. Rose makes the call and goes to a treatment center. She’s been gone for a month now and is coming back home today. Everyone is nervous. Blanche starts to tell a story while they wait. Rose returns, interrupting the story. Everyone is happy to see her and they all hug. They are worried she won’t be the same Rose. But she quickly starts to tell a St. Olaf story. It’s the same Rose, at least that hasn’t changed.
