Favorite Quotes:

* Sophia: Like your phone is ringing off the hook. Like you got such a full social calendar. You’re the only person who ever got a refund on call waiting.

* Dorothy: I figure, if she’s gonna be here, we ought to have a nice, quiet game.
Rose: Oh, that’s sweet.
Dorothy: And a lot of crap. I’m gonna mop the court with her.

* Blanche: Sophia, have you been out in the hot sun too long?
Sophia: It’s a possibility. Is there wax running out of my ears?

* Sophia: There are two things in this world a Sicilian knows. When pasta sticks to a wall, it’s done. When a body sticks to cement, it’s dead.

* Blanche: Well, pardon me, Dorothy, but we can’t all come from places as socially acceptable as Brooklyn.
Dorothy: I’m sorry, Blanche. Go on with the story. Just try to shy away from words like “tarnation” and “catfish.”

* Rose: At the Center, Dorothy, we teach acceptance. In life, some things are inevitable, and you just have to accept them.
Blanche: She is right, Dorothy. I know because I’ve been there myself.
Rose: You killed your best friend, too, Blanche? Sorry, Dorothy.

* Dorothy: We might as well take down that banner and put up one that says, “Welcome to the Dorothy Killed Trudy Party”!
(doorbell rings)
Rose: Oh, darn. Someone’s late. Dorothy will have to give her speech all over again.

Summary:

Dorothy plans to polish up her tennis skills before Trudy arrives in two weeks. She wants to beat her. It’s now the day of Trudy’s arrival. She’s brought her husband as well. They briefly share some old school memories. Then Dorothy challenges her to a game of tennis. It’s now game day and everyone is at the tennis court. Blanche is shocked at how competitively they are playing against each other. Trudy is clearly beating Dorothy badly. But Dorothy starts running her back and forth on the court. After a time, Trudy trips, falls and does not get back up. Sophia states she is dead. Back at the house, Blanche tries to cheer Dorothy up with a childhood story, but it doesn’t help. It’s another day and it’s time for a party. A get together of some of Dorothy’s classmates. Several hours into the party, people are asking where Trudy is. Dorothy has not told them yet that Trudy has died. Sophia tells Dorothy a story to try and bolster her courage to tell her friends what happened. Dorothy finally addresses the group. She asks Sophia to help. She begins to tell them all what happened to Trudy. She finishes telling them and all are devastated. Moments later, the doorbell rings. Someone has come late. Rose opens the door and finds Trudy standing there. The whole group is shocked and horrified. She explains it was just a joke, but no one finds it funny. Dorothy is so upset she goes to her room. Trudy then tries to get her to come out. She enters and finds Dorothy with her husband. Dorothy and Trudy’s husband are playing a prank on Trudy with this. The two make up and go join the party.
