Summary:
Blanche is trying to get acts for the talent show and not having any luck. Dorothy refuses to allow Sophia to be in the show telling her she has no talent. This time Sophia has brought a group that is talented. Sophia doesn’t want them in the show for free. The auditions continue without improvement. Even the Master of Ceremonies drops out. Finally, Sophia relents and is willing to let her act, the Donatello Triplets, be in the show. There is a catch though, they must let her new boyfriend be in the show too. It’s classic Sophia using blackmail to get what she wants. Rose offers to ask her father, Bob Hope, to be the MC. Everyone thinks she has lost her mind. Rose then tells them she spent the first 8 years of her life in an orphanage. Her parents are actually her adoptive parents. It’s another day and they are at the Auxiliary Club meeting. They move to the hospital variety show. Dorothy does her best to make it sound like it is going ok. Another member tells everyone the show is going horribly. Blanche jumps to her defense. Rose announces Bob Hope is going to be the MC. Everyone is overjoyed and the meeting ends. But now Blanche and Dorothy want to know how she got Bob Hope to be the MC. Turns out she didn’t speak to Bob Hope, just a receptionist. Dorothy is on the verge of a complete meltdown. Sophia’s boyfriend shows them a new trick and bends all of Dorothy’s keys. The three discuss Rose’s Bob Hope fantasy. Sophia tells a story from her village. Rose tells them Bob Hope is in Miami and he is going to help. Blanche suggests they go talk to Mr. Hope at the golf tournament about the variety show. They arrive at the clubhouse, dressed as men, to try and find him. Blanche learns he has already left. It’s now the night of the variety show. It’s going as best it can. Sophia tells them her boyfriend called his old vaudeville partner so the act will be better. Grudgingly, he goes on. Rose comes over and tells them there is a problem with the program: It still has Bob Hope’s name on it. She goes out to apologize to the group while Alfonso is still doing his act. He finally says a magic word and out of his box Bob Hope appears. The real Bob Hope.
