Carrie Fisher’s Brother Confirms There is Enough Footage of Her For ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ – Fan Fest | For Fans, By Fans

Carrie Fisher is confirmed to appear in Star Wars: Episode IX, Lucasfilm confirmed earlier this year. It’s been two years since Fisher passed away on December 27th, 2016, and they said initially that they would used unseen footage of the actress from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

They wrote in a statement,

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie [Lourd], we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Fisher’s brother Todd spoke to ABC News recently, in which he confirmed that there is plenty of footage to go around and the filmmakers will distribute that into the film to deliver proper closure to the fans.

“There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday.”

Fisher’s death occured after she finished filming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Last time we saw her, Leia was passionate as ever about The Resistance and encourages Poe Dameron to join the organization as a leader. How they will bring Leia’s arc to an end is still in question, but hopefully the unseen footage will do the trick.

Todd later added,
“We’re not allowed to talk about the details of anything, but we’re thrilled at what’s been done.”

It may comfort fans to know that because of Carrie’s collection and writings, her memory will also live on in new ways.

“We have a lot of her artifacts, and a lot of things of hers that she’s written that will someday be shared. There’s a lot more to come from Carrie.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters December 2019.
