I’m normally not very impressed with the first book of any series, but this one impressed me.
Dr. Kay Scarpetta is the Chief Medical Examiner for Richmond, Virginia. There is a sadistic serial killer on the loose in her town. He’s attacking women late at night in their own homes, tying them up scaring them half to death then raping them and finally killing them. He leaves no evidence behind. His signature, which in this case is the way he ties them up, is the only commonality.
He kills four women. He ties their wrists and ankles together so that if they straighten their legs or arms they will strangle themselves. Detective Marino is the lead in the case.
Will Dr. Scarpetta survive this case? The leaks, the hacking, and her niece? Will she and Detective Marino catch the bad guy? Or will the bad guy make Dr. Scarpetta his next victim? It’s an exciting thriller from start to finish.
