It’s New Years Eve and while everyone is having fun, except for Kay Scarpetta. She is dealing with an underwater crime scene. She dons her scuba gear and goes for a dive under water to recover the body of Ted Eddings, an investigative reporter. Why was a man who is usually on land, suddenly swimming in an icy river? What was he on to?
Even stranger is the fact that she received an anonymous call about his body. She got called before the police got called.
As she unravels the mystery it just layer after layer and spiral after spiral as a massive conspiracy theory is brought to light.
